Card Colosseum is an unofficial fan hub, and nothing gets a tabletop community talking quite like a fresh restrictions list. UNION ARENA dropped exactly that on October 1, 2026, and it landed right alongside the game's 3.5th anniversary.
That timing was no accident. In his "Producer's Message vol.10," posted October 1, development producer Kiyoshi Miyagawa celebrated 3.5 years of UNION ARENA and explained the team's approach to the meta. The core goal is simple: keep a wide variety of decks from a wide variety of titles viable. When a single strategy's usage rate and win rate climb past established thresholds in official and sanctioned tournament play, the team reined it in. The details were announced on September 25 and took effect under tournament regulations on October 1.
Here is what changed, straight from the official rules page.
Restricted to 1 copy per deck:
- IMS-3-040 "Black Comet" (THE IDOLM@STER SHINY COLORS, Purple). In the "Purple CoMETIK Deck," an effect places this card into the Outside Area, letting you draw cards and grow your hand size early without paying AP. That consistency made it hard for many decks to answer.
- MST-1-051 "Roxy" (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Green). When played, Roxy places a desired card into the Outside Area, generates 2 Activation Energy, and can also serve as the base card for Raid. A single card pulling so many roles sharply boosted deck consistency.
Restricted to 2 copies per deck:
- EVA-1-105 "Evangelion Unit-00" (Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition, Red). In the "Red Pseudo-Evolution Deck," when it leaves the field you draw 2 cards, then place 1 from hand into the Outside Area to play a Rei Ayanami with Required Energy 1 or less. Its ability to block twice can stall early attacks and feed into multiple attacks via EVA-1-079 Evangelion Unit-01 Pseudo-Evolution.
Why now? UNION ARENA's design principle is an environment where plenty of decks and titles can be enjoyed, and all three strategies drifted too far. The team reviews the restricted list about once every six months and will only lift restrictions if the game environment no longer shows a significant bias.
A couple of reminders if you are building for an event. UNION ARENA decks can normally run up to 4 copies of the same card number, and cards with the same number but different illustrations still count as the same card, so alt arts do not dodge the limit. As of October 2026, the wider competitive meta continues to shift month to month, so re-check the official restrictions page before you register.
The shakeup should open room for fresh strategies, and fans across the wider Bandai scene are already swapping notes on our sister hub at https://digimon.fdhcl.com
Whether you main CoMETIK, Green Raid, or Red Pseudo-Evolution, double-check your list now and enjoy the new meta.
