Here is the news One Piece Card Game fans have been waiting on. Bandai is adding OP14-020 Mihawk to the card game's banned list, and the change goes into effect on Monday, October 12, 2026.
What is being banned
The ban covers OP14-020 Mihawk (ジュラキュール・ミホーク), and the official notice makes clear that parallels are included too — so every printing of the card is off the table, not just the base version.
Once the update lands, this card cannot be put into a deck at all: that means zero copies, even of the parallel. If a deck already runs OP14-020, it will need a replacement before October 12.
Why Bandai gave for the move
The official reasoning reads like the standard "cards drifted from intent" call:
- As booster sets kept releasing, certain card combinations grew stronger than intended and pulled away from the intended gameplay.
- The card also greatly limited the usefulness of Slash (斬)-attribute leaders.
- Looking ahead to future cards, Bandai judged that keeping this card in play would severely harm leader-selection diversity.
The last point is the interesting one. Banning a card partly on the strength of upcoming cards is a forward-looking move, and it signals that Bandai is watching how leaders interact with the wider card pool, not just this one card in isolation.
A replacement leader is on the way
To soften the hit, Bandai is planning a new leader card with updated text: P-163 Mihawk (ジュラキール・ミホーク). Distribution is planned at tournaments and events, with details to be announced later. If you play a Slash-led deck built around the old Mihawk, this is the card to watch for — keep an eye on official channels for where and how P-163 will be handed out.
As of this update, we won't go further into what the card text says, because details were not in the announcement. We will update this post once official wording is out.
Context: one new ban, not a reshuffle
This update adds a single card to the banned list. The cards already on the list stay there, including Charlotte Pudding (OP06-047), Gecko Moria (OP06-086), and Trafalgar Law (ST10-001) — nothing changes for those. Likewise, the combination restrictions built around Luffy (OP11-040) pairs stay in force. So if your deck already respects the existing list, this is a one-card adjustment rather than a big rebuild.
It is also a good reminder of how different Bandai TCGs each manage their ban lists. Over at the Digimon fan coverage, the same team keeps an eye on how that game handles restricted cards, and the approaches are genuinely distinct per title.
What to do before October 12
If this ban touches you, the fix is quick: swap OP14-020 out of any deck before the effective date. Then watch for P-163 Mihawk announcements, because that is your most likely next step for a Slash-attribute leader build.
Stay tuned here for the P-163 details and any follow-up clarifications from the official side.
