Combos in Fusion World, Explained: The Heart of Every Battle
If you've played a card game before, you probably think of a "combo" as a chain of cards that do something flashy together. In Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World, it means something more specific, and it's the mechanic that decides most battles.
What a combo is
A combo is simple: you place Battle Cards into your Combo Area, and each one adds its printed Combo Power to the power of one of your own Battle Cards that's currently in a battle. Think of it as your fighters stepping in to back up the one throwing the punch.
Not every card can do this. Only cards with a non-negative Combo Power can be combed. If a card is printed without a Combo Power, it can't enter the Combo Area at all.
How a combo plays out
Combos happen during a battle, and both players get a turn.
In the Offense Step, the turn player can combo as many times as they want, one card at a time. Each time, they either move any Active Mode Battle Card from their Battle Area (other than the card currently attacking) into the combo, or reveal one Battle Card from their hand.
In the Defense Step, the defending player does the same, using Active Mode Battle Cards other than the guard card, or one from hand.
Then comes the Damage Step, where it all gets counted. All the Combo Power of the turn player's Combo Area cards is added to the attack card's power, and all the Combo Power of the defender's Combo Area cards is added to the guard card's power. The higher total wins the exchange; on a tie, the attack card gets the result.
The catch: combos are committed
Here's the part that trips up new players. When the battle ends, every Battle Card in the Combo Area goes to its owner's Drop Area, and the power bonuses disappear. Combo cards do not return to your hand. They're spent.
That means every combo is a real decision. You're trading cards in your hand or on your board for a shot at winning this one battle.
How to use combos well
Because you can combo from your hand as well as from the Battle Area, your opponent can't always read your true power ceiling. They see what's on your board, but not what's in your hand. Holding a few cheap cards with high Combo Power lets you bluff and swing a key trade.
A few habits help:
- Combo from the Battle Area when you can spare the card, and save your hand for the battles that decide the game.
- Don't over-commit. Winning by a mile spends cards you might need later.
- Watch your opponent's hand size. If they've been holding back, they may be sitting on a big combo of their own.
Combos are the engine of Fusion World. Read when to commit and when to hold, and you'll win more than your share of the close ones.
